INTO THE CITY OF DEADفي مدينة الموتى
MAIN POINTS
- The convoy was on the way to the archaeological site.
- Captain Ahmed knew that if you fight an enemy, you should first understand the enemy.
- Because Captain Ahmed was interested in learning about Spiders he asked the professor a lot of questions
- Captain Ahmed asked the professor about making antivenom.
- Professor Jones explained the way of making antivenom to the captain.
- He also explained the process of making spider antivenom.
- Ayman read Dr Shereen's printout e-mail in which she told him more information about the medical plant that treated the deadly Spider bites of the black and yellow spiders.
كانت الحملة في طريقها إلى الموقع الأثري و كان يعرف النقيب أحمد أن المعركة ضد عدو تحتاج منك أن تدرس هذا العدو أولا و لأنه كان محبا لمعرفة كل شيء عن العناكب كان يسأل البروفسير أسئلة عديدة منها كيف يصنع المصل المضاد للسموم. و شرح له البروفسير الطريقة . كما شرح له أيضا طريقة صناعة و تحضير مصل العنكبوت السام
- In her e-mail Dr Shereen asked Ayman to tell the professor about a botanist at Cairo University called Wafaa Sultan who had a research on that medical plant which was used by the ancient Egyptians to treat the black and yellow spider bites.
أخبرت أيضا دكتورة شيرين أيمن بأن يخبر البروفسيرعن عالمة باحثة في النباتات من جامعة القاهرة تدعى وفاء سلطان لها أبحاث عن هذا النبات الطبي الذي كان يستخدمه قدماء المصريين لعلاج لدغات العناكب السوداء الصفراء
- Ayman told the professor about Wafaa Sultan and let him read Dr Shereen Fakhry's e-mail.
- The professor told Captain Ahmed who consulted Colonel Mikhail.
وأخبر أيمن البروفسير على رسالة دكتورة شريين وأخبر البروفسير بذلك النقيب أحمد الذي بدوره استشار العقيد ميخائيل
- Colonel Mikhail decided to investigate the matter and said that if the spiders were an unknown species, they would send the botanist Wafaa Sultan to Sinai to get some of that plant.
قرر العقيد ميخائيل أن يتحرى الأمر وقال أنه إذا كانت العناكب غير معروفة فإنهم سوف يرسلون عالمة النباتات وفاء سلطان إلى سيناء لكي تأتي ببعض هذه النباتات
- The three vehicles arrived at the site and they started their work.
- They unloaded the equipment they carried with them to the site.
- They started working .They wore the protective doming.
- They prepared the insecticide tanks and the large sprays.
وصلت المركبات الثلاثة إلى الموقع وبدءوا في العمل وارتدوا الملابس الواقية وجهزوا خزانات المبيدات الحشرية و الرشاشات الكبيرة
- They arrived at the wide passage where there were the big spider's webs that the robbers had seen.
وصلوا إلى الممر العريض حيث كانت بيوت العنكبوت الكبير التي شاهدها اللصوص هناك
- The professor was excited and said, "This is fantastic!"
كان البروفسير في حالة إثارة و قال شيء رائع
- The professor used a white sheet prepared specially for collecting the spiders when they fell.
استخدم البروفسير ملاية بيضاء أعدها خصيصا لجمع العناكب المتساقطة
- The professor switched on the smoker which gave out hot poisonous smoke.
- The dead spiders fell into the white sheet and the professor picked three large spiders.
فتح البروفسير جهاز الدخان الذي يطلق دخانا ساما ساخنا و كانت العناكب تتساقط في ملاية بيضاء و التقط البروفسير منها ثلاثة عناكب كبيرة
- Ayman saw they were the same as the biggest spider he had seen in town but these ones were smaller than it.
تبين أيمن أنها كانت نفس النوع الذي شاهده أيمن في المدينة إلا أن العناكب التي يشاهدها كانت أصغر منه
- The professor examined the spiders with a magnifying glass and found they were all adults' males.
قام البروفسير بفحص العناكب بعدسة مكبرة ووجد إنها كلها ذكور بالغة
- A bigger spider was still surviving and tried to attack one of the officers, but the other officers used their insecticide sprays and the spider fell to the ground.
كان مازال هناك عنكبوت آخر على قيد الحياة و حاول أن يهاجمهم احد الضباط إلا أن الضباط الآخرين استخدموا المبيدات الحشرية والرشاشات ووقع العنكبوت على الأرض
- The professor examined it and found it was a female spider.
قام البروفسير ووجده انه كان أنثى عنكبوت
- Unexpectedly, the spider moved suddenly and it ran and disappeared.
على غير المتوقع تحرك العنكبوت فجأة و جرى واختفى
- The younger officer was coughing badly and fell to the ground. It was found that the spider's fangs broke through his face mask.
أخذ الضابط الأصغر يسعل بطريقة سيئة ووقع على الأرض ووجد أن أنياب العنكبوت حطمت القناع الذي على وجهه
- Captain Ahmed decided to leave fast.
وقرر النقيب احمد مغادرة المكان بسرعة
- Captain Ahmed and Ayman carried the injured officer.
- When they took off his suit in the fresh air the professor found it was not a serious case.
قام النقيب احمد و أيمن بحمل الضابط المصاب وعندما خلعوا البذلة في الهواء الطلق وجد البروفسير أن حالته ليست خطيرة
- The professor could identify the spider that it was not a known species .
استطاع البروفسير أن يعرف أن العنكبوت كان من نوع غير معروف
- When Captain Ahmed asked the professor if it was possible to destroy the spiders, the professor said it was impossible for many reasons.
عندما سأل النقيب أحمد البروفسير عما إذا كان من الممكن تدمير العناكب قال البروفسير أن ذلك مستحيل لعدة أسباب
- Captain Ahmed had a phone talk on the radio with Mikhail who gave his orders to him to return with professor and Ayman, and to bring the dead spiders. He also ordered that the venom must be sent to an antivenom lab.
أجرى النقيب أحمد مكالمة تليفونية لا سلكية مع العقيد ميخائيل الذي أعطى أوامره بأن يعود النقيب أحمد البروفسير و أيمن ومعهم العناكب الميتة و أعطى أوامره أيضا بأن ترسل السموم إلى معمل أمصال
- Captain Ahmed gave his orders to the officers to guard the site carefully.
أعطى النقيب أحمد أوامره إلى ضباط الحراسة بحراسة الموقع بعناية
- Colonel Mikhail organized to send the botanist Wafaa Sultan by helicopter to Sinai.
رتب العقيد ميخائيل لأمر إرسال عالمة النباتات وفاء سلطان إلى سيناء بطائرة هليكوبتر.
- It was decided that they must find the spider that Ayman had seen in Hamdayya.
تقرر أنه يجب العثور على العنكبوت الذي قد شاهده أيمن في حمدايا
- Professor Jones hoped that the Spider had not produced any younger yet.
كان البروفسير يأمل ألا يكون العنكبوت قد أنتج أية عنكبوت وليد بعد

TECHNOLOGY USED IN THE CHAPTER
1- Protective Clothing: الملابس الواقية
It was a large black plastic suit that covered the whole body. There was a thick transparent window to help them see.
2-Torches:They were worn on heads
3- A filter like gas mask: It helped them to breathe.
4- Smoker: It was used to pour out hot poisonous smoke when it was switched on.
5-A gun: It was a machine like gun with small petrol engine. It belonged to the professor.
6- A magnifying glass: It was used to enlarge (objects) spiders.

Dr Shereen Fakhry told Ayman in her third e-mail that "Echinacea Negra" was an extinct plant which grew in Sinai and a researcher called Wafaa Sultan in the Department of Botanical Science at Cairo University had studied the plant.

Two weeks after the robbers had left me site a new wire fence and a gate were built.
